Floor Sanding Abrasives
SIA 2800 Siaron Zirconia belts and discs. The abrasive range that matches Bona sanding machines -- full grit spread, on the shelf, trade pricing.
Why abrasive quality matters
Cheap abrasives cost more in the long run. They dull fast, clog early, burn the timber, and leave sanding marks that telegraph through every coat of finish. A premium zirconia abrasive cuts aggressively on the first pass, holds its edge through the full belt or disc life, and leaves a consistent scratch pattern that the next grit refines cleanly.
The SIA 2800 Siaron range uses zirconia alumina grain on a heavy cloth backing. Zirconia self-sharpens under heat -- as the grain wears, it fractures to expose fresh cutting edges instead of rounding off like standard aluminium oxide. The result is faster stock removal, cooler cuts, longer belt life, and a surface that takes primer and finish without sanding artefacts showing through.
The range
Abrasive Belts
SIA 2800 Siaron Zirconia belts in two sizes:
- 200 x 750mm -- fits Bona Belt UX 200 and equivalent 200mm drum sanders.
- 250 x 750mm -- fits Bona Belt 250 and equivalent 250mm drum sanders.
Full grit range on the shelf: P24, P36, P40, P50, P60, P80, P100, P120. Start at P24 or P36 for heavy stock removal on old floors with thick coatings, step through P60 and P80 for the mid grits, and finish at P100 or P120 before priming. The exact grit sequence depends on the species, the condition of the floor, and the finish system going over the top.
Abrasive Discs
SIA abrasive discs in three diameters:
- 178mm (7") -- fits Bona Edge and equivalent edger sanders.
- 150mm (6") -- fits Bona FlexiSand and equivalent orbital/buffer machines.
- 125mm (5") -- fits detail and palm sanders for tight spots.
Same grit range as belts. Edger discs do the perimeter work that the drum sander cannot reach. Buffer discs handle the final levelling pass and inter-coat abrasion between finish coats.
Picking the right grit sequence
Grit selection is not guesswork. The starting grit depends on what is on the floor -- bare timber, old solvent poly, paint, or glue residue. The finishing grit depends on the coating system -- water-based poly typically wants P100 or P120, solvent poly is more forgiving at P80-P100. The grit picker tool walks through the variables and recommends a sequence for the specific job.
Stock and availability
Every grit in every size listed above is held on the shelf at Sand-Aid, Toronto NSW. No waiting on back-orders for common grits. Trade accounts get same-day pickup or next-day dispatch to the Newcastle, Central Coast, Hunter Valley, and Lake Macquarie regions.
