Bona Toner Amber
Semi-transparent amber pigment additive. Warm the timber to an oil-tone glow without the oil-based smell.
What it is
Bona Toner Amber is a water-soluble pigment additive in a pre-measured 100 ml bottle, part of Bona's Additive+ range. It's semi-transparent -- you mix it into a Bona waterborne primer or lacquer to add a warm amber tone that enriches the timber, the way an old-school oil-modified finish does, but in a low-odour waterborne system. Used with Bona Intense primer it replicates the look of the original Bona Amber primer.
Why installers use it
- Warm, oil-tone look. Brings back the amber glow customers associate with traditional finishes.
- Replicates Amber primer. Toner Amber + Bona Intense primer = the Bona Amber primer result, on demand.
- Semi-transparent. Deepens darker species and warms lighter ones while the grain still shows.
- Build the tone. Control the depth with how many tinted coats you run.
Coverage & specs
- Type: water-soluble colour additive, semi-transparent (Bona Additive+ range).
- Pack: 100 ml pre-measured bottle.
- Mixing ratio: 1 bottle (100 ml) per 5 L of primer or lacquer (1:50). Max one bottle per 5 L -- build the tone with extra coats.
- Pairing: Bona Intense primer to mimic Amber primer; all Bona lacquers take it.
- Shelf life: 2 years unopened. Store and transport between +5°C and +30°C.
How to apply
Sand to bare timber and dust off. Shake the bottle hard for 60 seconds, add one bottle per 5 L and stir. Best results come from tinting the primer rather than the lacquer. Standard schedule is two primer coats with the toner, then one to two clear lacquer coats; add toner to a lacquer coat for a deeper tone. Stagger start, stop and overlap points coat to coat. Always lay a sample board in the actual species first -- Toner Amber is for colouration, not for turning a dark species light (use Bona Craft Oil 2K for that).
Not classified as hazardous under CLP/GHS -- no signal word or pictograms. Contains trace isothiazolinone preservatives and may produce an allergic reaction on sensitive skin. Wear gloves and eye protection, ventilate, and keep out of drains and watercourses.
